THE NEWMAN CENTER IS AN OFFICIAL PARTICIPANT IN GIVE TO LINCOLN DAY!
Again this year, the Newman Center is participating in the Lincoln-wide non-profit fundraising event on May 31, 2018! Give a donation of any amount on this day, and your donation will be increased by a pool of matching gift funds through the Lincoln Community Foundation. In addition, some friends of the Newman Center have committed to an internal match! In other words, your online or in-person donations go so much further on May 31!
WHAT IS GIVE TO LINCOLN DAY?
Give to Lincoln Day is a 24-hour event that encourages everyone to contribute to Lincoln and Lancaster County nonprofit organizations through a single online giving platform on May 31. Give to Lincoln Day is coordinated by Lincoln Community Foundation, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. Every donation given makes a bigger impact because nonprofits also get a proportional share of a $400,000 challenge match fund provided by Lincoln Community Foundation and the sponsors listed on their site.

On Sunday, December 10th, 2017, Catholic Social Services will present Carole Fest, A Benefit for St. Gianna Women's Homes. Area Catholic choirs will perform Advent and Christmas songs of the season in the beautiful setting of St. Thomas Aquinas Church on the campus of UNL. The afternoon will also include a raffle drawing and refreshments following the concert.
The concert is $10 per person or $25 per family and begins at 2pm. See you there!
About St. Gianna: In the Spring of 2011, we opened on a new 24 apartment unit which is sorely needed for victims of domestic violence and those escaping abortion. This is in addition to the existing three bedroom home we already have. Collectively, this program is called St. Gianna Women’s Homes. We now have the capability to provide a safe place for over 100 women and children. Though it will serve women of all faiths in the Diocese of Lincoln, St. Gianna Women’s Homes will not make any recommendations or referrals contrary to the Catholic faith and is staffed by the Marian Sisters.

More about #GivingTuesday:
Entering its sixth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (November 28) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
Prayer is the truly the most cherished gift you can give to the Newman Center. First and foremost on this #GivingTuesday, we want to ask for your prayers.
Please pray for all the students who walk through the doors of the Newman Center this year. Please pray for our staff whose dedicated talents make our ministries to thousands of young seekers possible. Please pray for Father Matya and Father Mills who work 7 days a week aiding students on their journey toward God. We know that not all have the ability to give large monetary donations of support, but we all have time right now to lift each other up in prayer!
We want to pray for you this #GivingTuesday, too. The Newman Center’s staff holy hour this morning is dedicated to your intentions. Please message us any specific intentions for which we can pray!
100% of this year's donations for #GivingTuesday this year will go to help build community at the Newman Center through our community night ministry. Each Thursday following the 10pm Mass, students are invited to a themed night, which feature student testimonials, group games, snacks, and Christ-centered conversation. Many of our students say that going to one of these events was their initial invitation into the Newman Center community, which they now consider a second family!
A staple event at the Newman Center-St. Thomas Aquinas Church is the Eucharistic Procession around the campus of UNL. Join us Thursday, November 2nd, beginning with Mass at 7pm. Mass will be followed by a candlelight and song procession to four altars around campus.
