Give To Lincoln Day!

THE NEWMAN CENTER IS AN OFFICIAL PARTICIPANT IN GIVE TO LINCOLN DAY!

Again this year, the Newman Center is participating in the Lincoln-wide non-profit fundraising event on May 31, 2018! Give a donation of any amount on this day, and your donation will be increased by a pool of matching gift funds through the Lincoln Community Foundation. In addition, some friends of the Newman Center have committed to an internal match! In other words, your online or in-person donations go so much further on May 31!

WHAT IS GIVE TO LINCOLN DAY?

Give to Lincoln Day is a 24-hour event that encourages everyone to contribute to Lincoln and Lancaster County nonprofit organizations through a single online giving platform on May 31. Give to Lincoln Day is coordinated by Lincoln Community Foundation, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. Every donation given makes a bigger impact because nonprofits also get a proportional share of a $400,000 challenge match fund provided by Lincoln Community Foundation and the sponsors listed on their site.

Starting May 1st, 2018, and ending May 31st, 2018, visit the page below to make your Give to Lincoln Day donation!

CAN I GIVE OFFLINE OR IN PERSON?

Cash and check donations before May 31 MUST be given (or mailed) directly to the Newman Center at 320 N 16th St., Lincoln, NE 68521 and must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, May 30th. Checks must be written to “Lincoln Community Foundation” with "Newman Center" specified in the memo line.

Donations may also be made in person on May 31 by cash or check at one of the three donation stations listed below:

  • Lincoln Community Foundation office, 215 Centennial Mall South, from 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Tower Square, 13th & P Streets, from 10:00am to 2:00pm
  • West Gate Bank, 6003 Old Cheney Road, 9:00am to 4:00pm

LCF will charge the same 2.9% fee as Firespring Foundation charges to online gifts. Fees received from offline gifts are directed to community grants for local nonprofits. All donations are final and cannot be refunded. Complete details may be found here

There will be praise and worship music, priests hearing Confessions, and prayer teams available for those who would like to pray with someone.

Students: FOCUS will oversee street teams that go out to find others to invite into our church. If you’d like to be on a street team, stay tuned for announcements about an upcoming training session!

Newman Center Phone-A-Thon

Newman Center Phone-A-Thon

Every year, the Newman Center is able to offer opportunities to students that can be life-changing! We often don’t consider that all we do– community nights, classes, pro-life activities, mission trips, FOCUS, and the daily Sacraments offered, turn the lights on, have toilet paper, have wifi– all cost money to make available.

If you've benefitted from the Newman Center, we ask you to consider being part of our annual student fundraiser beginning Feb. 18th. 100% of our parishioners are college students that can’t always give money, but can donate time instead! We really need you!

WHAT IS PHONE-A-THON

Beginning Feb. 18th and ending March 4 (catch up day on March 11), student volunteers gather in the Newman Center basement to call people to tell them about the awesome things going on at Newman and ask for a donation. Everyone we call has a previous connection to Newman and many are expecting our call! We’ll give you a phone, script, drinks, fresh-baked cookies, games, and prizes for getting donations! Some prizes are based on hours volunteered; this year’s prizes include: HuskerCatholic tech sticker sheet (6 hrs), HuskerCatholic socks (12 hrs), HuskerCatholic quarter-zip jacket (20 hrs), HuskerCatholic dri-duck jacket (25hrs).

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

Sign up for shifts online via the button below or (after Feb. 5) on the big boards floating around Newman. Lists will be consolidated, no need to sign up both places. Then, simply show up to your shift!

TEAM COMPETITION

Gather 5 friends and compete against other teams to win cool prizes including dinner in the rectory (grand prize), out to eat with the priests, a trip to the dairy store, or pizza for your team. Forms are at the front desk now, due Feb. 16th.

PRIZES 1st Place: Dinner in the Rectory with Fr. Matya and Fr. Mills!!! • 2nd Place: Out to eat with a cool priest (or two) • 3rd Place: A trip for a treat at the infamous Dairy Store • 4th, 5th, and 6th Places: $25 gift card out to eat

BONUS MONEY will be added to your final team total by turning in this form by these dates: February 5th: add $1,000 to your final total • February 12th: add $500 to your final total • If each member signs up for 2 shifts by February 12th: add $500 to your final total

Carole Fest: A Concert Benefit for Gianna Women's Homes

On Sunday, December 10th, 2017, Catholic Social Services will present Carole Fest, A Benefit for St. Gianna Women's Homes. Area Catholic choirs will perform Advent and Christmas songs of the season in the beautiful setting of St. Thomas Aquinas Church on the campus of UNL. The afternoon will also include a raffle drawing and refreshments following the concert.

The concert is $10 per person or $25 per family and begins at 2pm. See you there!

About St. Gianna: In the Spring of 2011, we opened on a new 24 apartment unit which is sorely needed for victims of domestic violence and those escaping abortion. This is in addition to the existing three bedroom home we already have. Collectively, this program is called St. Gianna Women’s Homes. We now have the capability to provide a safe place for over 100 women and children. Though it will serve women of all faiths in the Diocese of Lincoln, St. Gianna Women’s Homes will not make any recommendations or referrals contrary to the Catholic faith and is staffed by the Marian Sisters.
