Retreats

The Newman Center offers a few different spiritual retreats throughout the school year. Come for a weekend away to grow in communion with each other and with God. Typically, no time off of classes is required to attend one of our retreats.

Koinonia retreat

"Koinonia," the greek word for "community," is an introductory retreat experience in Christian community based on the Paschal Mystery of the Lord Jesus—His Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension. The retreat consists of talks, discussions, reflections, prayer, and celebration of the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist, which require active participation. Though the retreat is offered from a Catholic perspective, those who are not Catholic are welcome to attend. There is a $50 registration fee, but please ask about scholarships if this is an issue for you. Keep an eye on the calendar to see the specific dates for this retreat that happens in both the fall and spring semesters.

FOCUS Boot camp

Encounter the Holy Spirit and experience the need for a new Pentecost at the FOCUS Boot Camp retreat. When praying with the Trinity, Catholics often forget the Third Person, the Holy Spirit. FOCUS hosts a weekend Boot camp retreat once a semester that allows students to seek healing and pray with the Holy Spirit.  In order to live out this new Pentecost, we teach students how to invite the Holy Spirit into their prayer, both individually and with others. Stop by the Newman Center’s FOCUS office off of the first floor lounge or contact a missionary below for more information.

Interested in a retreat but don’t have the money to register?

Because we desire for any student who would like to make a retreat to be able to, scholarships are usually available. Contact the specific retreat coordinator to find out more.

Retreats through the Diocese of Lincoln

Many of our students take advantage of the retreats offered through Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House, a ministry of the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska. Situated on a spacious acreage in Waverly (just 20 minutes northeast of Lincoln), the retreat house setting offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere for prayer and recollection. The retreats at Our Lady of Good Counsel are silent, preached retreats providing guidance in prayer as well as ample opportunity to be alone with God.
