5th Sunday of Ordinary Time

What we hear in today's Gospel is a glimpse of what Jesus came to do here on earth. He comes and starts restoring all these little parts of our hearts back to what they were made for originally, but that's not simply what he came for. He draws them into the Cross so that he can restore to us the grace and relationship with God that we lost in the garden. He came to restore us to what we were created for - to walk with God. And yet, the thing that stands in between us and that relationship is sin. Where do we stand in our fight against sin? Do we understand that this is what is standing between us and the happiness we so deeply desire?
