Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Nov 9, 2025    Fr. Ryan Kaup

The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica causes a pause of reflection to the Church, our Mother, and what she gives us.

In the readings, we hear of a temple with water flowing out from it, giving life to all living things around. The Church today is the fulfillment of this temple. The living water is the sacraments given to us to receive His grace.

Christ’s blood flowing out on the cross is the fulfillment of this living water and the birth of the Church herself in the sacraments. This is the water that brings new life and healing. This is what restores what was broken and lost. We are transformed by this living water.

In receiving the sacraments, the medicine of immortality, we walk through this world with the spirit of God. We become the temples of God. Here, in us, is the place where He dwells.
