the children

Even in the way of the cross the children enter in. They watch as the man who loved them like a Father most innocently is led to be killed. He looks at them with tender love as they make their way to the front of the crowd. He calls them too in the way of the cross. When he meets the women, the children look up and gaze at who it is their mother loves so much. He greets them with a smile for that is all He has. Mary and Mary Magdalene comfort the children for this too pierces Mary’s heart as  a young boy watches in awe of Jesus taking up this great battle. Many would walk the way of the cross and receive His blood and their own crown of thorns protecting their purity of mind. At the cross, they leave happy with a gift from their Father. A rose grown from the blood of the Son. A rose scented with His mother so they may always have the Comforter. A rose as the secret key of His heart so they may always return. They come in multitudes grieving their own abandonment and orphanhood. They recognize Jesus’ thirst for it is what they feel at each moment deep within their hearts. For He was the only one who ever loved them and He too has died a horrible death and has left them. They have nowhere to turn to. They return to their lonesome caverns distraught as to what has occurred. For they knew they were chosen by the Father from birth, but never expected to grieve this agony and loss. Their blood is chilled by fear in this night of nights. Darkness for them now enters. Their passion begins.

“Taking a child he places it in their midst, and putting his arms around it he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.”

{Mark 9: 36-37}

“Jesus said, “I thirst.” There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth.”

“As a deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?”

“But one soldier thrust a lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.”

{John 19: 34}
