Christ the King Sunday

Nov 23, 2025    Fr. Alec Sasse

In this feast, the Church in her wisdom gives us a beautiful second reading of David looking out to this city as he is being crowned king. A meditation from St. Ignatius of Loyola provides us a layout to reflect on the counter kingdoms of our world

One being a city of darkness where the prince of darkness, himself, sits on a throne of smoke and fire. He then calls his demons to go and enslave the world and bring them back to him.

The other is the kingdom of Christ as the city of Jerusalem. A beautiful masterpiece of a city where Jesus stands attractive and beautiful. From here He calls his disciples to go into the world to free them from these chains.

He gives them three ways to tell them how to break these chains. To teach them how to detach from the material things of this world, free them from what the world thinks about them, and give them the gift of humility.

The King of light then kneels down and washes the feet of those that enter His kingdom. Washing the dirt from our feet in total unconditional love.
