Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus introduces us to the experience of the banquet. In the vulnerable space of entering, Jesus says go to the lowest place, the deepest place of communion with Him. In the struggle for power and desire for control within our hearts, the lie shouts out for the need to prove ourselves and secure our own safety.
Humility combats this battle by living in the tension of knowing we are sinners who are weak and also infinitely loved as sons and daughters of God. For He is all good and all powerful, and He knows me, loves me, and wants the best for me.
From that place of love, we can enter in freedom and confidence in the love of the Father. We can invite the poor, crippled, and lame, the ones who don’t give us anything. In complete love and trust, Saint Therese leads us in the little way of truth. May our prayer be “Jesus, I can’t, but you can.”
