Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the gospel, we see the temple in all its glory, awe, and wonder. Jesus tells us that this will past way pointing to all the things of this world that will pass away.
As the end of the liturgical year, the church calls us to reflect on the end times. This healthy perspective is meant to shine light on the places where our souls are clouded with the things of this world. The hope here is found in the everlasting truth that our souls are the one thing that cannot be taken away from us.
How is your soul? How have you treated your soul? What things of the world occupy space in this place? What attachments or sins are present there that the Lord wants to remove through confession? The call here is not to look inward with anxiety or frustration, but to turn our gaze to the Lord and ask, What do you want for my soul?
