14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jul 7, 2024    Fr. Ryan Kaup

It can be easy to treat the spiritual life as a goal to be achieved or a threshold to reach when it is actually a relationship and a mystery to be lived in.

Mystery is about relationship with God, and when we remember that our God is infinite Love and that there is no exhausting infinite Love, we can realize that there is always more.

If we treat the spiritual life like an object to be attained, we will always fall short. We are weak and little.

Like St. Paul, we carry thorns. These imperfections and weaknesses serve as spaces for the Lord to rush in and remind us that His grace is sufficient for us. His power is made perfect in weakness.

Let us ask for the grace to not be afraid of our weakness, to not be afraid of pain. His grace is sufficient for us. It is our weakness that he meets us and pours His love out, bringing about deeper communion with Him.
