30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Oct 23, 2022    Fr. Alec Sasse

The Lord is a God of justice. Even for those who seem to have perfect lives, it is all superficial. Everything on earth will one day fade away. The book of Sirach says if God did play favorites it would be the weak, the oppressed, the orphan, the widow, the one who serves God willingly, and the lowly, not the holy, rich, and healthy. God is close to the broken hearted and the poor.

God came to earth as a poor man, he lived among sinners and died humiliated on a cross. He comes for the weak, the broken, and oppressed by sin. Like the tax collector in the gospel who couldn't lift his head in the temple we should approach God with humility but also joy.
